I never played soccer for him and I never had him for biology, but I will always remember him. For one reason: his heart.

My senior year a couple weeks before graduation, one of my classmates found out Pingry wasn’t going to let her graduate. She had taken a few months off to go to Florida to compete in her sport. It was pre-approved by Pingry, but apparently, she hadn’t fulfilled all of her requirements by the time graduation came around. Certain faculty weren’t going to budge. I remember feeling so helpless as a friend. My sister, Beth ’92, said I should go talk to Mr. Bugliari about the situation.

Just days before graduation, we found out that she would receive her diploma. She didn’t attend graduation, but a bunch of us cheered when they called her name.

I don’t know what he said. I don’t know what strings he pulled. But he stuck his neck out for a student when he didn’t have to. He went above and beyond the call of duty. It wasn’t the first time, and it wasn’t the last.

His heart is huge. What lessons we can learn from him!
